This is the handout that I wrote to accompany a class that I taught at an event that my household, The Mountain Confederation (a mercenary household, hence some of the comments you will see in the paper), held in 2011. At the time that I wrote it, I anticipated that the only people in the class would be 2 of my fellow household members - both beginners. It was double! And the other two were not even members of my household. This was the first class that I have ever taught, and I was incredibly nervous, but I think it went well just the same. Please understand when reading this that it is a VERY brief and general overview, meant to give direction to those who don't really know about the period. Also, I am aware that some of my sources and citations are lacking - I had really put it together quickly expecting only 2 people to read it who wouldn't care too much. I do plan to go back and fix this in the future, I just haven't had time yet, so please bear with me on that one.
Even though this was not initially written for this project, it was written well within the time frame, and so I'm including it here as the first entry in my A&S 50 project. I'd love to know what you think of my very first dip into this type of thing, so please feel free to comment below. Mahalo! |
What is AS50?
A&S 50 is a self-imposed challenge to do 50 SCA related projects, within the realm of Arts & Sciences, between 5/1/2007 (AS 42) and 5/1/2015 (AS 50). You can learn more about AS-50 HERE. My Challenge:
I am taking on the Depth Challenge, which involves doing 50 of any one thing for the purpose of skills and knowledge to new levels. My personal Challenge is to create 50 articles/blog posts on SCA/period costuming & sewing. It is 2012, and I have just found out about this challenge, so I have a lot of work to do!
